Periodic review of User Access and Segregation of Duties issues is a major undertaking for any large company working towards SOX compliance. With plants spread across North America and Latin America, this was a cumbersome and time-consuming manual exercise that recurred every year for the Chemical Company. The customer was looking for an automated system that would enable business users to collaborate with their internal controls team and IT to review SoD issues and User Access.

Case Study: Global Semi-Conductor Manufacturer
Semi-Conductor Manufacturer is a global leader in the semi-conductor industry with headquarters in United States. To automate previously manual, risk-prone processes, the company engaged Bluegold oversee its upgrade to Access Control 5.3 and to design and implement a process that would enforce compliance automatically when users are provisioned to the central CUA system.
Customer Challenges
Managing tens of thousands of users across enterprise systems can be a challenging and time-consuming task. Semi-Conductor Manufacturer was using the Central User Administration (CUA) tool to manage its users across the SAP system landscapes. SAP GRC Access Control 5.2 was used to manage Segregation of Duties and to automate the access approval process. When users requested global CUA roles, checking for Segregation of Duties issues during access approval was particularly difficult. Semi-Conductor Manufacturer implemented a manual solution for this critical step, but it was less than ideal.
Bluegold Solution
Based on our extensive knowledge of SAP GRC Access Control and SAP Security, we redesigned the user provisioning process and modeled a new process that enforces compliance when users request access; our solution also only provisions access to the central CUA system. This approach was based on the new capabilities of SAP GRC Access Control 5.3.
